حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَابْلُتِّيُّ ثنا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ نَهِيكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ الْمَدَنِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ هَبَطَ عَلَيَّ مَلَكٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَا هَبَطَ عَلَى نَبِيٍّ قَبْلِي وَلَا يَهْبِطُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي وَهُوَ إِسْرَافِيلُ وَعِنْدَهُ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنَا رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ إِلَيْكَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُخْبِرَكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ نَبِيًّا عَبْدًا وَإِنْ شِئْتَ نَبِيًّا مَلَكًا فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى جِبْرِيلَ فَأَوْمَأَ جِبْرِيلُ إِلَيَّ أَنْ تَوَاضَعْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ «نَبِيًّا عَبْدًا» فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَوْ أَنِّي قُلْتُ نَبِيًّا مَلَكًا ثُمَّ شِئْتُ لَسَارَتِ الْجِبَالُ مَعِيَ ذَهَبًا»

✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'An angel descended upon me from heaven who had never descended upon any prophet before me and will not descend upon anyone after me. It was Israfil, and Gabriel was with him. He said: "Peace be upon you, O Muhammad." Then he said: "I am the messenger of your Lord to you. He commanded me to inform you: if you wish, you will be a prophet servant; and if you wish, a prophet king." I looked at Gabriel, and Gabriel gestured to me to be humble. The Prophet ﷺ then said: "A prophet servant." The Prophet ﷺ said: "Had I said a prophet king, then if I wished, the mountains would have moved with me as gold."'
