✧ Al-Hajjaj said to him: 'Stand and strike the neck of this man.' Salim took the sword, took the man, and headed toward the gate of the palace. His father saw him heading off with the man and said: 'Do you think he will do it?' He sent someone after him twice or three times. When he brought him out, Salim said to him: 'Have you prayed the dawn prayer?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then take whichever road you wish.' Then he came back and threw down the sword. Al-Hajjaj said to him: 'Did you strike his neck?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Why?' He said: 'I heard my father here saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever prays the dawn prayer is under Allah's protection until evening."' Ibn Umar said: 'He is shrewd. We named you Salim only so that you would remain safe.'
