حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اسْتَشَارَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِيمَا يَجْمَعُهُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالُوا الْبُوقُ فَكَرِهَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْيَهُودِ ثُمَّ ذُكِرَ النَّاقُوسُ فَكَرِهَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ النَّصَارَى فَأُرِيَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ النِّدَاءَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فَطَرَقَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلًا «فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِلَالًا فَأَذَّنَ بِهِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ consulted the Muslims regarding what would gather them for prayer. They suggested the trumpet, but he disliked it because of the Jews. Then the bell was mentioned, but he disliked it because of the Christians. That night, Abdullah b. Zayd, a man from the Ansar, and Umar b. al-Khattab were shown the call (adhan) in a vision. The Ansari went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at night, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered Bilal, who then gave the call to prayer with it.
