حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْبَكَّاءِ قَالَ قَالَ
رَجُلٌ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَكِنِّي أَبْغَضُكَ فِي اللهِ قَالَ وَلِمَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّكَّ تُنْقِي فِي أَذَانِكِ وَتَأْخُذُ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا»

✧ A man said to Ibn ʿUmar, “I love you for the sake of God.” Ibn ʿUmar said, “But I hate you for the sake of God.” He said, “Why?” He said, “Because you embellish your call to prayer and take a wage for it.”
