حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الصَّائِغُ ثنا أَبُو مُصْعَبٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ قَالَ مَرَّ ابْنُ عُمَرَ بِرَاعِي غَنَمٍ فَقَالَ
يَا رَاعِيَ الْغَنَمِ هَلْ مِنْ جَزْرَةٍ قَالَ الرَّاعِي لَيْسَ هَا هُنَا رَبُّهَا فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ تَقُولُ «أَكَلَهَا الذِّئْبُ» فَرَفَعُ الرَّاعِي رَأْسَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ اللهُ؟ فَاشْتَرَى ابْنُ عُمَرَ الرَّاعِي وَاشْتَرَى الْغَنَمَ فَأَعْتَقَهُ وَأَعْطَاهُ الْغَنَمَ

✧ “O shepherd of the sheep, is there any sheep to be slaughtered?” The shepherd said, “Its owner is not here.” Ibn ʿUmar said, “Say, ‘The wolf ate it.’” The shepherd raised his head to the sky and said, “Then where is God?” Ibn ʿUmar bought the shepherd and bought the sheep, then freed him and gave him the sheep.
