حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِمَوْلًى لِابْنِ عُمَرَ كَيْفَ كَانَ مَوْتُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ؟ قَالَ
أَصَابَهُ رُمْحُ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ فِي رِجْلِهِ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَجَّاجُ يَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ لَوْ أَعْلَمُ الَّذِي أَصَابَكَ لَضَرَبْتُ عُنُقَهُ قَالَ أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَصَبْتَنِي قَالَ كَيْفَ؟ قَالَ يَوْمَ أَدْخَلْتَ حَرَمَ اللهِ السِّلَاحَ
Translation

✧ A spear of a man from the people of Syria struck him in his leg. Al-Hajjaj entered upon him to visit him and said, "If I knew who struck you, I would strike his neck." He said, "You are the one who struck me." He said, "How?" He said, "On the day you brought weapons into the sanctuary of Allah."
