حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الصَّائِغُ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْهَادِ حَدَّثَتْنِي هِنْدُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ الْخَثْعَمِيَّةُ امْرَأَةُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسِ
عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَامَ لَيْلَةً بِمَكَّةَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ» فَقَامَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَكَانَ أَوَّاهًا فَقَالَ اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ فَحَرِصْتَ وَجَهِدْتَ وَنَصَحْتَ اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ فَحَرِصْتَ وَجَهِدْتَ وَنَصَحْتَ فَأَصْبَحَ فَقَالَ «لَيَظْهَرَنَّ الْإِيمَانُ حَتَّى يَرُدَّ الْكُفْرَ إِلَى مَوَاطِنِهِ وَلَيُخَاضُ الْبِحَارُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَتَعَلَّمُونَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنَ فَيُعَلِّمُونَهُ وَيْقَرَءُونَهُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ قَدْ قَرَأْنَا وَعَلَّمْنَا فَمَنَ ذَا الَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنَّا؟ فَهَلْ فِي أُولَئِكَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ؟» قَالُوا لَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَنْ أُولَئِكَ؟ قَالَ «أُولَئِكَ مِنْكُمْ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمْ وَقُودُ النَّارِ»

✧ From the Messenger of God ﷺ: he stood one night in Makkah during the night and said, “O God, have I conveyed?—three times.” Then ‘Umar b. al-Khattab stood up—he was compassionate—and said, “O God, yes. You have been eager, striven, and given sincere counsel. O God, yes. You have been eager, striven, and given sincere counsel.” In the morning he said, “Faith will certainly prevail until it drives disbelief back to its homelands, and the seas will certainly be crossed with Islam, and there will certainly come upon people a time when they learn the Quran, teach it, and recite it, then say, ‘We have recited and taught, so who is better than us?’ Is there any good in those?” They said, “No, O Messenger of God, and who are those?” He said, “Those are from you, and those are the fuel of the Fire.”
