حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا ثَوَابُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَمْرَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَعْطَى مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ سَيْفًا فَقَالَ «قَاتَلِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا قُوتِلُوا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ سَيْفَيْنِ اخْتَلَفَا بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَاضْرِبْ حَتَّى يَنْثَلِمَ وَاقْعُدْ فِي بَيْتِكِ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَكَ مَنِيَّةٌ قَاضِيَةٌ أَوْ يَدٌ خَاطِئَةٌ» ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ فَحَذَا لِي عَلَى مِثْلِهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ gave Muhammad b. Maslamah a sword and said: “Fight the polytheists as long as they are fought. When you see two swords drawn among the Muslims, strike with it until it is notched, then stay in your house until a decisive death or a stray hand comes to you.” Then I came to Ibn Umar and he narrated to me the like of it from the Prophet ﷺ.
