حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ
قَرَأْنَاهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَنَتَيْنِ {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَ} الْآيَةَ ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ {إِلَّا مَنْ تَابَ} «فَمَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَرِحَ فَرَحًا قَطُّ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُ بِهَا» وَبِ {إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا}

✧ We recited it in the time of the Prophet ﷺ for two years: “And those who do not call upon another god besides God, and do not kill the soul which God has forbidden except by right, and do not commit adultery” [Q 25:68]—the verse—then was revealed “except for one who repents” [Q 25:70]. I never saw the Prophet ﷺ rejoice with any joy more intense than his joy at this verse and at “Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory” [Q 48:1].
