حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَائِلَةَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُؤْمِنِ ثنا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ فَرُّوخَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُؤَخِّرُ الْعَتَمَةَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ فَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَتِ الْعَتَمَةَ لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ يُعْتِمُ بِهَا»

✧ “The Messenger of God ﷺ used to delay the evening prayer (al-ʿatamah) until one third of the night. That is why it is called al-ʿatamah, because he used to delay it (yuʿtim) into the darkness.”
