حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدَانَ الْبَجَلِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا حُسَيْنٌ الْأَشْقَرُ ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ كَثِيرٍ النَّوَّاءِ عَنْ مَيْمُونٍ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا أُخْرِجَ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ وَتُرِكَ عَلِيٌّ قَالَ النَّاسُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَبَلَغَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنَا أَخَرَجْتُكُمْ مِنْ قِبَلِ نَفْسِي وَلَا أَنَا تَرَكْتُهُ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَخْرَجَكُمْ وَتَرَكَهُ إِنَّمَا أَنَا عَبْدٌ مَأْمُورٌ مَا أُمِرْتُ بِهِ فَعَلْتُ» {إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَى إِلَيَّ}

✧ When the people of the mosque were expelled and 'Ali was left, the people talked about that. It reached the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: 'I did not expel you of my own accord, nor did I leave him; rather, Allah expelled you and left him. I am only a commanded servant; whatever I am commanded, I do. I follow only what is revealed to me.'
