حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا وَقَعَ فِي أَبٍ كَانَ لِلْعَبَّاسِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَلَطَمَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ فَجَاءَ قَوْمُهُ فَقَالُوا وَاللهِ لَنَلْطِمَنَّهُ وَحَمَلُوا السِّلَاحَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَيُّ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ تَعْلَمُونَ أَكْرَمُ عَلَى اللهِ؟» قَالُوا أَنْتَ قَالَ «فَإِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ لَا تَسُبُّوا أَمْوَاتَنَا فَتُؤْذُوا أَحْيَاءَنَا» فَجَاءَ الْقَوْمُ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ نَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ اسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا

✧ A man insulted a father of al-Abbas from the pre-Islamic era, so al-Abbas slapped him. His people came and said: "By Allah, we will surely slap him," and they took up arms. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he ascended the pulpit and said: "O people, which people of the earth do you consider most honorable in the sight of Allah?" They said: "You." He said: "Indeed al-Abbas is of me and I am of him. Do not revile our dead, for you would harm our living." Then the people came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we seek refuge in Allah from your anger. Seek forgiveness for us."
