حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ ثنا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْبَاطِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَحَاتِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْبَاطِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا خُطِبَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْضُ بَنَاتِهِ أَتَى الْخِدْرَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ فُلَانًا يَخْطُبُ فُلَانَةَ» فَإِنْ طَعَنَتْ فِي الْحَائِطِ لَمْ يُزَوِّجْهَا وَإِنْ لَمْ تَطْعَنْ فِي الْجِدَارِ أَنْكَحَهَا

✧ When one of his daughters was proposed to, the Prophet ﷺ would come to her private chamber and say: “So-and-so is proposing to so-and-so.” If she stabbed the wall, he would not marry her off; but if she did not stab the wall, he would give her in marriage.
