حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ أَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ زَوْجَ بَرِيرَةَ كَانَ عَبْدًا
يُقَالُ لَهُ مُغِيثٌ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ يَطُوفُ خَلْفَهَا يَبْكِي وَدُمُوعُهُ تَسِيلُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِلْعَبَّاسِ «يَا عَبَّاسُ أَلَا تَعْجَبُ مِنْ شِدَّةِ حُبِّ مُغِيثٍ بَرِيرَةَ وَمَنْ شِدَّةِ بُغْضِ بَرِيرَةَ مُغِيثًا» فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَوْ رَاجَعْتِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ أَبُو وَلَدِكِ» قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَتَأْمُرُنِي؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا أَنَا شَافِعٌ» قَالَتْ فَلَا حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهِ

✧ He was called Mughith; it is as if I see him going around behind her weeping, his tears flowing onto his beard. The Prophet ﷺ said to al-Abbas: "O Abbas, are you not amazed at the intensity of Mughith's love for Barirah and the intensity of Barirah's hatred for Mughith?" The Prophet ﷺ said to her: "If only you would take him back, for he is the father of your child." She said: "O Messenger of God, do you command me?" He said: "I am only an intercessor." She said: "Then I have no need of him."
