حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَا ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
مَرَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ عَلَى نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ غَنْمٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا مَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا لِيَتَعَوَّذَ فَعَمِدُوا إِلَيْهِ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَأَخَذُوا غَنَمَهُ فَأَتَوْا بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَتَبَيَّنُوا} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {كَذَلِكَ كُنْتُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ}

✧ A man from Banu Sulaym passed by a group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ with a flock of sheep, and he greeted them. They said: “He only greeted you to seek protection.” So they went to him, killed him, and took his sheep. Then they brought them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Allah ﷻ revealed: {O you who believe, when you travel in the way of Allah, verify} up to His saying {Thus you were before.}
