حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

اسْتَأْذَنَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُرَيْشٌ فِي الْعَتِيرَةِ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ نَعْتِرُ فِي رَجَبٍ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَعِتْرٌ كَعِتْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَلَكِنْ مَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَذْبَحَ لِلَّهِ فَيَأْكُلَ وَيَتَصَدَّقَ فَلْيَفْعَلْ» وَكَانَ عِتْرُهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ يَذْبَحُونَ ثُمَّ يَعْمِدُونَ إِلَى دِمَاءِ ذَبَائِحِهِمْ فَيَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا رُءُوسَ نُصُبِهمْ

✧ The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, sought the permission of the Quraysh regarding Al-Atirah. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we engage in Al-Atirah during the month of Rajab." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said to them, "Engage in Al-Atirah as it was practiced during the time of ignorance (pre-Islamic era), but whoever among you desires to sacrifice for the sake of Allah, eat from it and give charity, then let them do so." Their practice of Al-Atirah was that they would slaughter animals and then rub the blood on the heads of their idols.
