حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الدِّيلِيِّ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ
تَعَلَّقَ ثَوْبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ بِشَجَرَةٍ وَالنَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ عَلَيْهِ يَسْأَلُونَهُ مِنَ الْغَنَائِمِ فَحَسِبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنَّهُمْ أَمْسَكُوا بِرِدَائِهِ وَقَالَ «أَرْسِلُوا رِدَائِي تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تُبَخِّلُونِي وَاللهِ لَوْ أَفَاءَ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِثْلَ شَجَرِ تِهَامَةَ نَعَمًا لَقَسَمْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُونِي بَخِيلًا وَلَا جَبَانًا وَلَا كَذَّابًا» فَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا تَعَلَّقَتْ بِثِيَابِهِ سَمُرَةٌ فَخَلَّصُوهُ

✧ On the day of Hunayn, the garment of the Messenger of God ﷺ caught on a tree while the people were gathered around him asking him for spoils. The Prophet ﷺ thought they had seized his cloak and said: “Let go of my cloak. Do you want me to be miserly? By God, if God were to give you spoils as numerous as the trees of Tihamah in livestock, I would distribute them among you, and you would not find me miserly, cowardly, or lying.” They said: “It was only a samurah tree that caught his clothes,” so they freed him.
