حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ شِنْظِيرٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
إِنَّمَا كَانَ بَدْءُ الْإِيضَاعِ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ كَانُوا يَقِفُونَ حَافَتَيِ النَّاسِ وَقَدْ تَعَلَّقُوا الْقِسِيَّ وَالْجِعَابَ فَإِذَا نَفَرُوا تَقَعْقَعَتْ لَقَدْ رُئي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَأَنَّ ذِفْرَى نَاقَتِهِ لَتَمَسُّ حَارِكَهَا وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّكِينَةِ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّكِينَةِ»

✧ The beginning of hastening (al-īḍāʿ) was only from the side of the desert people. They would stand at the edges of the people, having hung their bows and quivers. When they departed, they would rattle. The Messenger of God ﷺ was seen while the base of his she-camel's ear appeared to touch her withers, and he was saying: “O people, you must maintain calm. O people, you must maintain calm.”
