حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ غُلَيْبٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْكُوفِيُّ ثنا جَامِعُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّائِفِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا وَلِي أَحَدٌ وِلَايَةً إِلَّا بُسِطَتْ لَهُ الْعَافِيَةُ فَإِنْ قَبِلَهَا تَمَّتْ لَهُ وَإِنْ خَفَرَ عَنْهَا فُتِحَ لَهُ مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَهُ بِهِ» قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا خَفَرَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ يَطْلُبُ الْعَثَراتِ وَالْعَوْرَاتِ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. al-Ḥasan b. Ghulayb al-Miṣrī

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "No one is given any authority except that well-being is spread out before him. If he accepts it, it is completed for him, but if he breaches it, there is opened for him that which he has no strength to bear." I said to Ibn ʿAbbās: What does 'breaches it' mean? He said: "He seeks out slips and private faults."
