حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ النَّرْسِيُّ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عُمَرَ حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ الزوزنيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْيَزيديُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ {وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ} «وَكَيْفَ لَا يَكُونُ لَهُ أَنْ يَغُلَّ وَلَهُ أَنْ يُقْتَلَ» قَالَ اللهُ {وَيَقْتُلُونَ الْأَنْبِيَاءَ} «وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ اتَّهَمُوا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي شَيْءٍ» فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ}

✧ He used to recite: “It is not for a prophet to be dishonest” [Quran 3:161]. “And how could it not be for him to be dishonest when he could be killed?” Allah said: “And they kill the prophets” [Quran 2:61]. “But the hypocrites accused the Prophet ﷺ of something,” so Allah revealed: “It is not for a prophet to be dishonest.”
