حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ
«كَانَ الطَّلَاقُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَسَنَتَيْنِ مِنْ خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ طَلَاقُ الثَّلَاثِ وَاحِدَةً» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدِ اسْتَعْجَلُوا أَمْرًا كَانَتْ لَهُمْ فِيهِ أَنَاةٌ فَلَوْ أَمْضَيْنَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَأَمْضَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ

✧ “Triple divorce was considered one during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and the first two years of ʿUmar’s caliphate.” Then ʿUmar said: “The people have become hasty in a matter in which they had been given respite. If only we could enforce it upon them.” So he enforced it upon them.
