حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ قَالَ
«كَانَتِ الشُّورَى فَاجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ ؓ لِثَلَاثٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ تَمَامَ سَنَةِ خَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَسِنُّهُ ثَمَانٍ وَثَمَانُونَ سَنَةً وَكَانَ يُصَفِّرُ لِحْيَتَهُ وَكَانَتْ وِلَايَةُ عُثْمَانَ ؓ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً»

✧ The shura was held, and the people agreed upon Uthman ؓ with three nights remaining in Dhu al-Hijjah in the year twenty-three. Then Uthman ؓ was killed on Friday, eighteen nights having passed in Dhu al-Hijjah, at the completion of the year thirty-five. He was eighty-eight years old. He used to dye his beard yellow, and the reign of Uthman ؓ was twelve years.
