حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
بَعَثَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ مُمْسِيًا وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ تَهْدِي بِهَا قَلْبِي وَتَجْمَعُ بِهَا شَمْلِي وَتَلُمَّ بِهَا شَعَثِي وَتُرَدَّ بِهَا أُلْفَتِي وَتُصْلِحُ بِهَا دِينِي وَتَحْفَظُ بِهَا غَائِبِي وَتَرْفَعُ بِهَا شَاهِدِي وَتُزَكِّي بِهَا عَمَلِي وَتُبَيِّضُ بِهَا وَجْهِي وَتُلْهِمُنِي بِهَا رُشْدِي وَتَعْصِمُنِي بِهَا مِنْ كُلِّ سُوءٍ اللهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي إِيمَانًا صَادِقًا وَيَقِينًا لَيْسَ بَعْدَهُ كُفْرٌ وَرَحْمَةً أَنَالُ بِهَا شَرَفَ كَرَامَتِكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْفَوْزَ عِنْدَ الْقَضَاءِ وَنُزُلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَعَيْشَ السُّعَدَاءِ وَمُرَافَقَةَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالنَّصْرَ عَلَى الْأَعْدَاءِ اللهُمَّ أَنْزَلْتُ بِكَ حَاجَتِي وَإِنْ قَصُرَ رَأْيِي وَضَعُفَ عَمَلِي وَافْتَقَرْتُ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا قَاضِيَ الْأُمُورِ وَيَا شَافِيَ الصُّدُورِ كَمَا تُجِيرُ بَيْنَ الْبُحُورِ أَنْ تُجِيرَنِي مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ وَمِنْ دَعْوَةِ الثُّبُورِ وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقُبُورِ اللهُمَّ مَا قَصُرَ عَنْهُ رَأْيِي وَضَعُفَ عَنْهُ عَمَلِي وَلَمْ تَبْلُغْهُ أُمْنِيَتِي مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَعَدْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ عِبَادِكَ أَوْ خَيْرٍ أَنْتَ مُعْطِيهِ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ؛ فَإِنِّي أَرْغَبُ إِلَيْكَ فِيهِ وَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا هَادِينَ مَهْدِيِّينَ غَيْرَ ضَالِّينَ وَلَا مُضِلِّينَ حَرْبًا لِأَعْدَائِكَ وَسِلْمًا لِأَوْلِيَائِكَ نُحِبُّ بِحُبِّكَ النَّاسَ وَنُعَادِي بِعَدَاوَتِكَ مَنْ خَالَفَكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ اللهُمَّ هَذَا الدُّعَاءُ وَعَلَيْكَ الَاسْتِجَابَةُ اللهُمَّ وَهَذَا الْجُهْدُ وَعَلَيْكَ التُّكْلَانُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ اللهُمَّ ذَا الْحَبْلِ الشَّدِيدِ وَالْأَمْرِ الرَّشِيدِ أَسْأَلُكَ الْأَمْنَ يَوْمَ الْوَعِيدِ وَالْجَنَّةَ يَوْمَ الْخُلُودِ مَعَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ الشُّهُودِ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ وَالْمُوفِينَ بِالْعُهُودِ إِنَّكَ رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ وَإِنَّكَ تَفْعَلُ مَا تُرِيدُ سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي تَعَطَّفَ الْعِزَّ وَقَالَ بِهِ سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي لَا يَنْبَغِي الْحَمْدُ إِلَّا لَهُ سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ وَالْبَهَاءِ سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْمَقْدِرَةِ وَالْكَرَمِ سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَحْصَى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ بِعِلْمِهِ اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِي نُورًا فِي قَلْبِي وَنُورًا فِي قَبْرِي وَنُورًا فِي سَمْعِي وَنُورًا فِي بَصَرِي وَنُورًا فِي شَعْرِي وَنُورًا فِي بَشَرِي وَنُورًا فِي لَحْمِي وَنُورًا فِي دَمِي وَنُورًا فِي عِظَامِي وَنُورًا مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيَّ وَنُورًا مِنْ خَلْفِي وَنُورًا عَنْ يَمِينِي وَنُورًا عَنْ شِمَالِي وَنُورًا مِنْ فَوْقِي وَنُورًا مِنْ تَحْتِي اللهُمَّ زِدْنِي نُورًا وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا وَاجْعَلْ لِي نُورًا»

✧ Al-ʿAbbās sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I came to him in the evening while he was in the house of my maternal aunt Maymūnah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to pray during the night. When he had prayed the two rakʿahs before dawn, he said: "O Allah, I ask You for mercy from You by which You guide my heart, gather my affairs, mend my brokenness, restore my affection, set right my religion, protect my absent ones, elevate my present ones, purify my deeds, whiten my face, inspire me with right guidance, and protect me from every evil. O Allah, grant me true faith and certainty after which there is no disbelief, and mercy by which I attain the honor of Your generosity in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for success at the time of decree, the hospitality of the martyrs, the life of the fortunate, the company of the prophets, and victory over the enemies. O Allah, I bring my need to You even if my judgment is short and my deeds are weak, for I am in need of Your mercy. So I ask You, O Decider of affairs, O Healer of hearts, as You make a way between the seas, to protect me from the punishment of the Blaze, from the cry of destruction, and from the trial of the graves. O Allah, whatever good my judgment falls short of, my deeds are too weak for, and my hopes do not reach—good that You have promised to any of Your servants or good that You bestow upon any of Your creation—I desire it from You and I ask You, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, make us guides who are guided, not astray and not leading astray, at war with Your enemies and at peace with Your friends. We love people through Your love and we show enmity, through Your enmity, to those among Your creation who oppose You. O Allah, this is the supplication, and upon You is the response. O Allah, this is the effort, and upon You is the reliance. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. O Allah, Possessor of the strong rope and the right command, I ask You for security on the Day of Warning and Paradise on the Day of Eternity with the favored witnesses, those who bow and prostrate, and those who fulfill the covenants. Indeed, You are Merciful and Loving, and You do whatever You will. Glory be to the One who is clothed in might and has spoken it. Glory be to the One to whom praise is due alone. Glory be to the Possessor of the Throne and splendor. Glory be to the Possessor of power and generosity. Glory be to the One who has enumerated everything by His knowledge. O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my grave, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light in my hair, light in my skin, light in my flesh, light in my blood, light in my bones, light before me, light behind me, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, and light below me. O Allah, increase me in light, grant me greater light, and place light for me."
