حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ
كَانَ عُمَرُ يَسْأَلُنِي مَعَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ تَسْأَلُهُ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ مَنْ حَيْثُ تَعْلَمُ فَسَأَلَهُمْ عَنْ {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَالْفَتْحُ} فَقُلْتُ إِنَّمَا هُوَ أَجَلُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَرَأَ السُّورَةَ إِلَى آخِرِهَا إِلَى {كَانَ تَوَّابًا} فَقَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقْتَ

✧ ʿUmar used to ask me along with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf said to him: “You ask him?” He said: “He is from where you know.” So he asked them about {When the help of Allah comes and the victory}. I said: “It is only the appointed term of the Prophet ﷺ.” And he recited the surah to its end up to {He is ever accepting of repentance}. ʿUmar said: “You have spoken the truth.”
