حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ ثنا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ عَلِمْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَدِمْتُ مَكَّةَ فِي عُمُومَةٍ لِي فَأُرْشِدْنَا عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَانْتَهَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ إِلَى زَمْزَمَ فَجَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَابِ الصَّفَا أَبْيَضُ تَعْلُوهُ حُمْرَةٌ لَهُ وَفْرَةٌ جَعْدٌ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ أُذُنَيْهِ أَشَمُّ أَقْنَى أَذْلَفُ بَرَّاقُ الثنَايَا أَدْعَجُ الْعَيْنَيْنِ كَثُّ اللِّحْيَةِ دَقِيقُ الْمَسْرُبَةَ شَثْنُ الْكَفَّيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَبْيَضَانِ كَأَنَّهُ الْقَمَرُ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ يَمْشِي عَلَى يَمِينِهِ غُلَامٌ أَمْرَدُ حَسَنُ الْوَجْهِ مُرَاهِقٌ أَوْ مُحْتَلِمٌ تَقْفُوهُمُ امْرَأَةٌ قَدْ سَتَرَتْ مَحَاسِنَهَا حَتَّى قَصَدَ نَحْوَ الْحَجَرِ فَاسْتَلَمَهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَلَمَ الْغُلَامُ ثُمَّ اسْتَلَمَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ ثُمَّ طَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ سَبْعًا وَالْغُلَامُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَطُوفَانِ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ وَكَبَّرَ وَقَامَ الْغُلَامُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ وَقَامَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ خَلْفَهُمَا فَرَفَعَتْ يَدَيْهَا وَكَبَّرَتْ وَأَطَالَ الْقُنُوتَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فَقَنَتَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ وَسَجَدَ الْغُلَامُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ مَعَهُ يَصْنَعَانِ مِثْلَ مَا يَصْنَعُ وَيَتَّبِعَانِهِ قَالَ فَرَأَيْنَا شَيْئًا لَمْ يَكُنْ نَعْرِفُهُ بِمَكَّةَ فَأَنْكَرْنَا فَأَقْبَلْنَا عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ فَقُلْنَا يَا أَبَا الْفَضْلِ إِنَّ هَذَا الدِّينَ لَمْ نَكُنْ نَعْرِفُهُ فِيكُمْ أَشَيْءٌ حَدَثَ؟ قَالَ أَجَلْ وَاللهِ أَمَا تَعْرِفُونَ هَذَا؟ قُلْنَا لَا قَالَ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَالْغُلَامُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَالْمَرْأَةُ خَدِيجَةُ بِنْتُ خُوَيْلِدٍ أَمَ وَاللهِ مَا عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْأَرْضِ أَحَدٌ يَعْبُدُ اللهَ عَلَى هَذَا الدِّينِ إِلَّا هَؤُلَاءِ الثَّلَاثَةُ

✧ The first thing I learned of the affair of the Messenger of God ﷺ: I came to Makkah with some uncles of mine, and we were directed to al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib. We reached him while he was sitting at Zamzam, so we sat with him. While we were with him, a man approached from the gate of al-Safa, white with a redness over him, having thick, curly hair reaching halfway down his ears, aquiline-nosed, with a slight projection at the bridge, bright front teeth, dark wide eyes, a full beard, a thin line of hair from chest to navel, rough hands and feet, wearing two white garments, as though he were the moon on the night of the full moon. Walking on his right was a beardless youth of handsome face, near puberty or having reached it, and behind them came a woman who had covered her beauty until he made for the Black Stone and touched it, then the youth touched it, then the woman touched it. Then he circumambulated the House seven times, with the youth and the woman circumambulating with him. Then he touched the corner, raised his hands and said takbir, and the youth stood at his right and raised his hands, and the woman stood behind them, raised her hands and said takbir. He prolonged the qunut, then bowed and prolonged the bowing, then raised his head from bowing and performed qunut while standing, then prostrated, and the youth and the woman prostrated with him, doing as he did and following him. He said: We saw something we did not recognize in Makkah, so we found it strange. We turned to al-Abbas and said: O Abu al-Fadl, this religion we did not know among you—has something new occurred? He said: Yes, by God. Do you not know this one? We said: No. He said: This is my nephew, Muhammad b. Abd Allah, and the youth is Ali b. Abi Talib, and the woman is Khadija bt. Khuwaylid. By God, there is no one on the face of the earth who worships God by this religion except these three.
