حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ أنا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ حَصِيرَةَ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ فَوَلَّى عَنْهُ النَّاسُ وَبَقِيتُ مَعَهُ فِي ثَمَانِينَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ فَتَنَكَّصْنَا عَلَى أَقْدَامِنَا نَحْوًا مِنْ ثَمَانِينَ قَدَمًا وَلَمْ نُوَلِّهِمْ الدُّبُرَ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّكِينَةَ قَالَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْضِي عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ قُدُمًا قَالَ فَحَادَتْ بِهِ بَغْلَتُهُ فَمَالَ عَنِ السَّرْجِ فَشَدَدْتُ نَحْوَهُ قُلْتُ ارْتَفِعْ رَفَعَكَ اللهُ قَالَ «نَاوِلْنِي كَفًّا مِنْ تُرَابٍ» فَضَرَبَ بِهِ وُجُوهَهُمْ فَامْتَلَأَتْ أَعْيُنَهُمْ تُرَابًا قَالَ «أَيْنَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ؟» قُلْتُ هُمْ أَوْلَى قَالَ «اهْتِفْ بِهِمْ» فَهَتَفْتُ بِهِمْ فَجَاءُوا سُيُوفُهُمْ بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمُ الشُّهُبُ فَوَلَّى الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَدْبَارَهَمْ

✧ Abdullah b. Mas'ud: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn. The people fled from him, and I remained with him along with eighty of the Muhajirun and Ansar. We retreated on our feet about eighty steps, but we did not turn our backs to them. They are the ones upon whom Allah sent down tranquility. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept moving forward on his mule. His mule swerved, so he leaned off the saddle, and I rushed toward him and said, "Lift yourself up, may Allah raise you." He said, "Hand me a handful of dust." He threw it in their faces, and their eyes filled with dust. He said, "Where are the Muhajirun and the Ansar?" I said, "They are near." He said, "Call them." So I called them, and they came with their swords in their right hands, like shooting stars, and the polytheists turned their backs and fled.
