حَدَّثَنَا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْجُنْدِيسَابُورِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ثنا مَجَاعَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اسْتَحُوا مِنَ اللهِ حَقَّ الْحَيَاءِ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا لَنَسْتَحْيِي وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ قَالَ «لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ وَلَكِنْ مَنِ اسْتَحْيَى مِنَ اللهِ حَقَّ الْحَيَاءِ فَلْيَحْفَظِ الرَّأْسَ وَمَا حَوَى وَالْبَطْنَ وَمَا وَعَى وَلْيَذْكُرِ الْمَوْتَ وَالْبِلَى وَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْآخِرَةَ تَرَكَ زِينَةَ الدُّنْيَا فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدِ اسْتَحْيَى مِنَ اللهِ حَقَّ الْحَيَاءِ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Be truly modest before God." They said, "O Messenger of God, we are indeed modest, and praise be to God." He said, "It is not that. But whoever is truly modest before God must guard the head and what it contains, and the belly and what it holds, and remember death and decay. Whoever desires the Hereafter abandons the adornment of this world. Whoever does that has been truly modest before God."
