حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الضَّبِّيُّ التُّرْكِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزِيزُ [ عُوَيْنُ ] بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقَيْسِيُّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمَرَ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ:
أَنَّهُ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِ مَدْحُوسٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَقَامَ فِي الْبَابِ، فَنَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَمِينًا وَشِمَالًا، فَلَمْ يَرَ مَوْضِعًا، فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رِدَاءَهُ فَلَفَّهُ، ثُمَّ رَمَى بِهِ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا جَرِيرُ، اجْلِسْ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَخَذَهُ جَرِيرٌ، فَضَمَّهُ، وَقَبَّلَهُ، ثُمَّ رَدَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: أَكْرَمَكَ اللهُ، يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَمَا أَكْرَمْتَنِي، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا أَتَاكُمْ كَرِيمُ قَوْمٍ فَأَكْرِمُوهُ

✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in a house crowded with people. He stood at the door, and the Prophet ﷺ looked right and left but did not see a place, so he took his cloak, folded it, and threw it to him, saying: “O Jarīr, sit on it.” Jarīr took it, hugged it, kissed it, and then returned it to the Prophet ﷺ, saying: “May God honor you, O Messenger of God, as you have honored me.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “When a nobleman of a people comes to you, honor him.”
