✧ I took on a blood-money obligation for my people, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have taken on a blood-money obligation for my people, so help me with it." He said, "Rather, we will bear it on your behalf, O Qabisah. It is for you from the zakat when it comes." Then he said, "O Qabisah, asking is only lawful for one of three: a man who takes on a blood-money obligation for his people, intending thereby to bring about reconciliation, and he asks until he reaches the amount or is close, then he refrains; a man afflicted by a calamity that destroys his wealth, and he asks until he obtains enough to meet his basic needs; and a man afflicted by poverty, and three men of sound judgment from his people testify, saying, 'So-and-so has been afflicted by poverty,' and he asks until he obtains enough to sustain himself or meet his basic needs, then he refrains. Anything else besides these, asking is unlawful earnings that its owner consumes."
