✧ Whoever wrongs his brother in any way should seek to be absolved by him today, before it is taken from his good deeds. There will be no dinar or dirham then. If he has righteous deeds, an amount equivalent to his wrongdoing will be taken from them. If he has no righteous deeds, some of the evil deeds of his companion will be taken and cast upon him.

machine translationIbn Abī Dhiʾb and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq narrate it from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah. Mālik b. Anas also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him. Ibrāhīm b. Ṭahmān, Ismāʿīl b. ʿAyyāsh, Khālid b. Ḥumayd, Ṣadaqah b. ʿAbdillāh, Ibn Wahb, Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Maʿn b. ʿĪsā, Ibn Abī Uways and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Yaḥyā narrated it from Mālik, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, and it is not in the Muwaṭṭaʾ. Likewise Zayd b. Abī Unaysah narrated it from Mālik, and there is disagreement about Zayd: Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥīm narrated it from Zayd, from Mālik, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah. Abū Khālid al-Dālānī differed from them both: he narrated it from Zayd b. Abī Unaysah, from al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, and did not mention Mālik in it. Isḥāq b. Muḥammad al-Farwī narrated it from Mālik, from al-Maqburī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, and added to the chain, beyond them, Abū Saʿīd al-Maqburī. His addition is acceptable because those mentioned before are more reliable than he. ʿAlī b. Mubashshir narrated to us: Aḥmad b. Sinān al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us: Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān narrated to me, from Mālik, from Saʿīd b. Abī Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'Whoever has a wrong committed against his brother, concerning property or honour, let him go to him and seek his forgiveness before he is seized, when there will be no dinar or dirham. If he has good deeds, they will be taken from his good deeds and given to this one; and if he has no good deeds, some of this one's evil deeds will be taken and cast upon him.' Abū Bakr al-Naysābūrī narrated to us: Ṣāliḥ b. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal narrated to us: ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī narrated to us: Yaḥyā narrated to us, from Mālik, from Saʿīd b. Abī Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly. ʿAlī said: I mentioned it to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and he said: It is not in the book of Mālik, nor in that of Yaḥyā b. Yaḥyā. ʿAlī said: I asked Maʿn about it and he said: It is with Mālik; he narrated it, then abandoned it.
