✧ Al-Zubayr encountered a thief and interceded for him. It was said to him: 'Wait until we bring him to the ruler.' He said: 'When he reaches the ruler, then may God curse the intercessor and the one for whom intercession is made, as the Messenger of God ﷺ said.'

machine translationAbū Ghuzayyah al-Anṣārī Muḥammad b. Mūsā narrated it from Ibn Abī al-Zinād, from Hishām b. ʿUrwah, from ʿUrwah, from al-Zubayr, and he erred in it. Saʿīd b. Manṣūr contradicted him and narrated it from Ibn Abī al-Zinād correctly, from Hishām b. ʿUrwah, from his brother ʿAbdullāh, from al-Furāfiṣah, from al-Zubayr. Likewise Ḥammād b. Zayd, Sufyān al-Thawrī, Jaʿfar b. ʿAwn and others narrated it from Hishām. Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated it from Hishām b. ʿUrwah, but he did not establish the chain; he narrated it from Hishām, from his father, or Ibn al-Munkadir, that al-Zubayr. None of them raised it to the Prophet ﷺ except Abū Ghuzayyah, from Ibn Abī al-Zinād, from Hishām, and the version stopping at a Companion (mawqūf) is more sound (aṣaḥḥ). Likewise Sharīk narrated it from Abū Bakr b. Ṣukhayr Abū al-Jahm, from ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr, also as mawqūf, and that is the correct one.
