✧ A man used to lead his people in prayer and would recite in every rakʿah: "Qul huwa Allahu aḥad" along with another sūrah. His companions said to him: 'You recite this sūrah—meaning "Qul huwa Allahu aḥad"—and then do not consider it sufficient, but you recite another sūrah with it. Either confine yourself to it, or recite the other sūrah and leave it.' He said: 'I will not do that. If you are pleased, then so be it; otherwise, your affair is up to you.' He was one of the best among them, and they disliked that anyone other than him lead them. They mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: 'What prevents you from doing what your people instruct you to do, and what compels you to this sūrah?' He said: 'I love it.' He said: 'Your love of it will admit you to Paradise.'
