حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ قَالَ: نَا صَالِحُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ: نَا أَبِي قَالَ: نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ قَالَ:
غَزَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ قُرْصٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ، غَزَاةً لَهُ، فَمَكَثَ فِيهَا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ قَرِيبًا مِنَ الْأَهْوَازِ سَمِعَ صَوْتَ أَذَانٍ، فَقَالَ: وَاللهِ مَا لِي عَهْدٌ بِصَلَاةٍ مَعَ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مُنْذُ زَمَانٍ "، وَقَصَدَ نَحْوَ الْأَذَانِ يُرِيدُ الصَّلَاةَ، فَإِذَا هُوَ بِالْأَزَارِقَةِ، قَالُوا لَهُ: مَا جَاءَ بِكَ يَا عَدُوَّ اللهِ قَالَ: وَمَا أَنْتُمْ إِخْوَانِي ؟، قَالُوا: أَنْتَ أَخُو الشَّيْطَانِ، لَنَقْتُلَنَّكَ قَالَ: أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ مِنِّي بِمَا رَضِيَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالُوا: وَأَيُّ شَيْءٍ رَضِيَ بِهِ مِنْكَ قَالَ: " أَتَيْتُهُ وَأَنَا كَافِرٌ، فَشَهِدْتُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَخَلَّى عَنِّي "، فَأَخَذُوهُ، فَقَتَلُوهُ
Translation

✧ Umarah b. Qurs al-Laythi went on a military expedition of his and stayed in it as long as Allah willed. Then he returned until he was near al-Ahwaz, where he heard the call to prayer. He said, 'By Allah, I have not attended prayer with a congregation of Muslims for a long time.' He headed toward the call, intending to pray, and found himself among the Azariqah. They said to him, 'What has brought you here, O enemy of Allah?' He said, 'Are you not my brothers?' They said, 'You are a brother of Satan, and we will surely kill you.' He said, 'Will you not accept from me what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ accepted?' They said, 'What did he accept from you?' He said, 'I came to him as a disbeliever, and I testified that there is no god but Allah and that he is the Messenger of Allah, and he let me go.' They seized him and killed him.
