✧ Two women came to Dawud ﷺ, each claiming the remaining child, as a wolf had eaten one of their two sons. He judged in favor of the elder one. When they went out, they came to Sulayman, who asked, "How did he judge between you?" They told him. He said, "Bring me a knife." Abu Hurayrah said: The first time I heard the word "knife" was from the Messenger of God ﷺ; we used to call it al-mudyah. The younger woman said, "Why?" He said, "To split him between you two." She said, "Give him to her." The elder woman said, "Split him between us." So Sulayman judged in favor of the younger woman. They said, "If he were your son, you would not agree to split him."
