حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحُلْوَانِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ قَالَ: نَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي رَجَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَبُو الْمِقْدَامِ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ، عَنْ كَعْبِ الْأَحْبَارِ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ: إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ قَوْمًا لَوْ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لَنَظَرُوا إِلَى يَوْمَ نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ، فَاتَّخَذُوهُ عِيدًا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: أَيَّةُ آيَةٍ ؟ فَقَالَ: الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ فِي أَيِّ يَوْمٍ أُنْزِلَتِ: الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ، يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ، وَهُمَا لَنَا عِيدَانِ

✧ I said to 'Umar b. al-Khattab: "I know people who, if this verse were revealed to them, would regard the day it was revealed and take it as a festival." 'Umar said: "Which verse?" He said: "'Today I have perfected for you your religion...'" to the end of the verse. 'Umar said: "I know on which day it was revealed: 'Today I have perfected for you your religion' on a Friday, the Day of 'Arafah, and both are festivals for us."
