✧ A son of his died, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to him condoling him on his son. He wrote to him: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Mu'adh b. Jabal. Peace be upon you. I praise Allah, besides whom there is no god, to you. To proceed: May Allah magnify your reward, inspire you with patience, and grant us and you gratitude. For our souls, our wealth, our families, and our children are among the wholesome gifts of Allah and His loaned deposits. He gave you enjoyment through him in happiness and joy, and He took him from you with abundant reward. Prayer, mercy, and guidance. If you seek reward, then be patient, and do not let your grief nullify your reward so that you regret. Know that grief does not bring back the dead, nor does it repel sorrow, and what is to come is as if it has already been. Peace.'
