✧ I went with Ibn 'Umar on an errand to Ibn 'Abbas, and Ibn 'Umar completed his errand with Ibn 'Abbas. His talk that day was that he said: A man passed by the Messenger of God ﷺ in one of the streets, having just come from relieving himself of urine and feces, and greeted him, but he did not return the greeting. When the man was about to disappear into the street, he struck his hand on the wall and wiped his face, then struck his hand again on the wall and wiped his forearms, then returned the man's greeting. He said: 'Nothing prevented me from returning your greeting except that I was not in a state of purity.'
