✧ While the Messenger of God ﷺ was in the mosque, Abu Jahl b. Hisham, Shaybah and 'Uqbah, the two sons of Rabi'ah, 'Uqbah b. Abi Mu'ayt, and Umayyah b. Khalaf were there. Abu Jahl said: "Which of you will go to the slaughtered camel of Banu so-and-so and bring us its stomach contents and cast them upon Muhammad?" The most wretched and most foolish of them, 'Uqbah b. Abi Mu'ayt, went and brought it and threw it upon his shoulders while the Messenger of God ﷺ was prostrating, and he did not pay attention [to them]. Ibn Mas'ud said: "I was standing and could not say anything, for I had no clan to protect me. Then Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, heard of that, and she came and removed it from her father, then she faced Quraysh and reviled them, but they did not respond to her at all. The Messenger of God ﷺ raised his head as he would raise it at the completion of his prostration. When he finished his prayer, he said: 'O God, against Quraysh! O God, against Quraysh! O God, against 'Uqbah, 'Utbah, Umayyah b. Khalaf, Abu Jahl b. Hisham, and Shaybah.' The Messenger of God ﷺ left the mosque, and Abu al-Bakhtari met him, and with Abu al-Bakhtari was a whip in his two little fingers. When he saw the Messenger of God ﷺ, he noticed something wrong in his face, so he took hold of him and said: 'Come, what is the matter with you?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Let go of me.' He said: 'God knows, I will not let go of you until you tell me what is wrong with you, for something bad has befallen you.' When the Messenger of God ﷺ knew that he would not let him go, he informed him, saying: 'Abu Jahl ordered that filth be thrown upon me.' Abu al-Bakhtari said: 'Come to the mosque.' The Prophet ﷺ refused, but Abu al-Bakhtari took him and brought him into the mosque. Then he went to Abu Jahl and said: 'O Abu al-Hakam, are you the one who ordered that filth be thrown upon Muhammad?' He said: 'Yes.' He raised the whip and struck his head with it, and the men fell back one upon another. Abu Jahl said: 'Woe to you! It is for him. Muhammad only wanted to cast enmity between us and save himself and his companions.'
