وَبِهِ: عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ:
صُمْنَا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْرِضَ اللهُ صِيَامَ رَمَضَانَ، فَلَمَّا فَرَضَ اللهُ صِيَامَ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَصُمْهُ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَتْرُكْهُ، وَكَانَ يَوْمًا تُسْتَرُ فِيهِ الْكَعْبَةُ.

✧ We fasted the day of Ashura before Allah made the fast of Ramadan obligatory. When Allah made the fast of Ramadan obligatory, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever wishes may fast it, and whoever wishes may leave it.' It was a day on which the Kaaba was covered.
