✧ We used to be taught the istikhara supplication as we were taught a surah from the Quran: when a man intends a matter, he should say: ‘O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge, and I seek ability by Your power, and I ask of Your vast bounty. For You have power and I have none, and You know and I know not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if this matter which I desire’—and he names it—‘is good for me in my religion, good for me in my worldly life, good for me in my hereafter, and good for me in the outcome of my affair, then facilitate it for me and bless me in it. But if it is evil for me in my religion, evil for me in my worldly life, evil for me in my hereafter, and evil for me in the outcome of my affair, then turn it away from me, and facilitate for me the good, and decree it for me, then make me content with Your decree.’
