✧ The Prophet ﷺ was in a garden belonging to a man from the Ansar when a man came seeking permission to enter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Arise, O Anas, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and inform him that he will be in charge of my community after me.' I arose and opened for him, and behold, it was Abu Bakr. I gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and he praised Allah, then entered. Then another came and knocked at the door, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Arise, O Anas, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and inform him that he will be in charge of my community after Abu Bakr.' I opened for him, and behold, it was Umar. I gave him glad tidings, and he praised Allah, then entered. Then another came and knocked at the door, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Arise, O Anas, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and inform him that he will be in charge of my community after Abu Bakr and Umar, and that he will face severe hardship from the subjects until they go so far as to shed his blood. At that time I will command him to refrain.' I opened for him, and behold, it was Uthman b. Affan. I gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and he praised Allah. Then I informed him of his coming authority and that they would go so far as to shed his blood. He said: 'Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we return,' then entered.
