حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمَوَيْهِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ، ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، أَخْبَرَنِي شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّخَعِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُلَاثَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِالْكُوفَةِ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ حَتَّى تَتَفَطَّرَ قَدَمَاهُ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَوَلَيْسَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ؟ قَالَ: أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

✧ I heard al-Nu'man b. Bashir saying on the pulpit in Kufa: The Messenger of God ﷺ would stand in prayer at night until his feet cracked. It was said to him: O Messenger of God, has not God forgiven you your past and future sins? He said: Should I not be a grateful servant?
