حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُوحِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّرَائِفِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ

كَانَ إِذَا خُطِبَ بَعْضُ بَنَاتِهِ جَلَسَ إِلَى الْخِدْرِ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ فُلَانًا يَخْطُبُ، فَإِنْ هِيَ سَكَتَتْ، كَانَ سُكُوتُهَا رِضَاهَا، وَإِنْ هِيَ كَرِهَتْ، طَعَنَتْ فِي الْحِجَابِ، فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهَا كَرَاهِيَةً

Translation

✧ When one of his daughters was proposed to, he would sit by the curtain and say: 'So-and-so is proposing. If she remains silent, her silence is her consent; and if she dislikes it, she will push against the curtain. That from her is a sign of dislike.'
