✧ We camped at Dabiq and Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah was over us. Habib ibn Maslamah heard that the ruler of Cyprus had gone out intending the patrician of Adharbijan, and with him were emeralds, rubies, pearls, gold and silk brocade. He went out with cavalry and killed him and brought what was with him. Abu 'Ubaydah wanted to take a fifth of it. Habib said: 'Do not deprive me of it; it is provision God has provided me, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ assign the spoils to the killer.' Mu'adh said: 'Gently, O Habib, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: A person only has what his leader is pleased to give.'
