✧ 'Umar b. al-Khattab asked the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was at al-Ji'ranah, after returning from al-Ta'if, saying: "O Messenger of God, I vowed in the time of ignorance to observe i'tikaf for a day in the Sacred Mosque. What do you think?" He said: "Go and observe i'tikaf for a day." The Messenger of God ﷺ had given him a slave girl from the khums. When the Messenger of God ﷺ freed the captives of the people, he heard their voices saying, "The Messenger of God ﷺ has freed us." So he asked, "What is this?" They said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ freed the captives of the people." 'Umar said: "Go to that slave girl and set her free."
