✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and we made a night halt while we were with him, nearly a thousand riders, and he prayed two rak'ahs. Then he turned his face toward us with his eyes shedding tears. Umar b. al-Khattab stood up to him, may his father and mother be his ransom, saying: What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah? He said: I asked my Lord's permission to seek forgiveness for my mother, but He did not permit me, so my eyes shed tears out of mercy for her from the Fire. And I had forbidden you three things: from visiting graves, but visit them, and let their visitation increase you in good; and I had forbidden you from the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, but eat and keep whatever you wish; and I had forbidden you from certain drinks, but drink, and do not drink any intoxicant.
