حَدَّثَنَا الصَّائِغُ، ثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجُدِّيُّ، ثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهُذَلِيُّ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَفِرُّ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ كَمَثَلِ الثَّعْلَبِ تَطْلُبُهُ الْأَرْضُ بِدَيْنٍ، فَجَعَلَ يَسْعَى حَتَّى إِذَا عَيِيَ وَانْبَهَرَ دَخَلَ جُحْرَهُ، [ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ الْأَرْضُ: يَا ثَعْلَبُ، دَيْنِي ]، فَخَرَجَ، وَلَهُ حُصَاصٌ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى انْقَطَعَتْ عُنُقُهُ، فَمَاتَ

✧ The example of one who flees from death is like the example of a fox that the earth demands for a debt, so it kept running until, when it became tired and out of breath, it entered its burrow, [and the earth said to it, 'O fox, my debt,'] so it came out with a rapid gait, and it kept doing that until its neck broke and it died.
