حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، نَا الْمُسَيِّبُ بْنُ وَاضِحٍ، ثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ مَرَّ بِحَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَهُوَ يُنْشِدُ شِعْرًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ ؓ: هَاهُنَا ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ حَسَّانُ: نَعَمْ، لَقَدْ أَنْشَدْتُ فِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ حَسَّانُ إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكَ بِاللهِ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، هَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: أَجِبْ عَنِّي، اللَّهُمَّ أَيِّدْهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، فَسَكَتَ عُمَرُ وَمَضَى
Translation

✧ Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ passed by Hassan b. Thabit while he was in the mosque reciting poetry. Umar ؓ said to him: 'Here?' Hassan said to him: 'Yes, I recited it to one better than you.' Then Hassan turned to Abu Hurayrah and said: 'I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Hurayrah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Respond on my behalf; O Allah, support him with the Holy Spirit"?' Abu Hurayrah said: 'O Allah, yes.' So Umar fell silent and went on.
