حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، نَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْخُتَّلِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْمُعَلِّمِ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الْأَخْنَسِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يُحَدِّثُ. عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ:

مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللهِ أَحَبَّ اللهُ لِقَاءَهُ، وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللهِ كَرِهَ اللهُ لِقَاءَهُ. قَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ: فَقُلْتُ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ مِنْهَا ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. فَرَحَلْتُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَائِشَةَ، وَقُلْتُ: نَحْنُ نَكْرَهُ الْمَوْتَ. فَقَالَتْ: " لَيْسَ ذَاكَ كَذَلِكَ، إِنَّمَا ذَاكَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ يَرَى الْمُؤْمِنُ مَا لَهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ فَيُحِبُّ لِقَاءَهُ، وَالْكَافِرُ يُبْغِضُ الْمَوْتَ، وَيُبْغِضُهُ اللهُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ

Translation

✧ Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him; and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him. Masruq said: I said: Did you hear it from her? He said: Yes. So I traveled to Madinah and mentioned that to 'A'ishah and said: We dislike death. She said: It is not like that. Rather it is at the time of death: the believer sees what he has with Allah and loves to meet Him, and the disbeliever hates death, and Allah hates him at that time.
