✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ali as a commander over Yemen and sent Khalid b. al-Walid over the mountain. He said: If you meet, Ali is in charge of the people. So they met and obtained spoils the like of which they had never obtained. Ali took a slave girl from the fifth. Khalid b. al-Walid called Buraydah and said: Seize this opportunity and inform the Prophet ﷺ of what he did. So I arrived in Madinah and entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in his house, and some of his companions were at his door. They said: What is the news, O Buraydah? I said: Good. Allah granted victory to the Muslims. They said: What brought you? He said: A slave girl whom Ali took from the fifth, so I came to inform the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Then inform him, for it will cause him to fall from the sight of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard the talk and came out angry, saying: "What is the matter with people who belittle Ali? Whoever belittles Ali has belittled me, and whoever leaves Ali has left me. Indeed, Ali is from me and I am from him. He was created from my clay, and I was created from the clay of Ibrahim, and I am more excellent than Ibrahim: 'Offspring, one of another; and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.'" Then he said: "O Buraydah, do you not know that Ali has more right than the slave girl he took, and that he is your guardian after me?" So I said: O Messenger of Allah, by the companionship, extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you anew upon Islam. He said: I did not leave him until I pledged allegiance to him upon Islam.
